For me it was the artwork and theme, the skull bosses where unlike anything I've seen in other apps the game was just badass😎.
Same for me. I think most games have to see something visual to grab them. I saw an ad on Facebook and didn't pay it any attention at the time. Second time I said why not try it and I've been here for just about 4 years.
for me I just clicked on one of the old bragging posts that people can do to facebook and clicked on it to see what it was about and was directed to itunes and liked what I saw so gave it a go as I'm heavily into these types of games anyways and 4 years later still going strong.
a friend from another game started playing uwe and he kept asking me to start playing too , i thought id check it out for a few days and once i played a few eves and understood how the game worked i was hooked.
Starting playing to pass time at work. I became hooked rather quickly and had a second toon a month later. It's now 4 years later and I'm gaining interest again, started fading due to lack of anything new.

Same here. Fox and Sin got my attention enough to try the game out. And the fact that the theme was NOT comic book, army, or zombie kept me interested enough to play clueless for 6 months. Although I was a member of an empire, I did not participate in wars (didn't know what to do) until a fellow member reached out and helped me out. I have been hooked ever since. I have played EVERY day for 2 1/2 years and I now have 9 toons.
